Progressives are always lecturing concerned Americans that it's crazy to think they'll ever take anyone's guns away. But what if the president was an anti-gun nut who didn't believe in the Second Amendment?
That's the point we've reached in Barack Obama's America. Last night, radio host Mark Levin interviewed John Lott, a former lecturer at the University of Chicago. Lott has written extensively in favor of the Second Amendment and looser gun control laws as a way to prevent crime. He was also at the University of Chicago during Obama's brief tenure as a constitutional law professor about ten years ago. According to Lott, the first time he saw Obama, he approached him and introduced himself. "Oh you're the gun guy," said the future president, warily. Lott said he laughed and said he was. Obama then said, "Well I don't think anyone should be allowed to own guns."
Lott was surprised by the remark. Trying to be friendly, he invited Obama to dinner with him to discuss the matter as academics. Obama refused and after that declined to speak with Lott. Lott was surprised. As a lone conservative at a liberal university, he often argued with his colleagues, but always in a spirit of mutual respect. Obama, Lott said, seemed to condescend to anyone who disagreed with him. He was the ultimate ideologue, intolerant of anyone who thought differently. Lott also revealed that the rest of the faculty didn't take Obama seriously and considered him an unqualified intellectual lightweight.
The interview is shocking because it sheds a small ray of light on Obama's college days, which are mostly shrouded in mystery. Two weeks ago, we reported on a friend of Obama's during college who came forward to admit that the president was an unabashed Marxist. Now we find out that Obama's an anti-gun loon as well.
Unfortunately the transcript and audio aren't available, but we'll post them as soon as they are.
